Dunkura Leaves Iowa

She started out like any other sun dress. What made her different was that Adwoa Sara G. (pictured above and not to be confused with the other Adwoa Sara G.) wore her every day while we stayed in the town of Dunkuraa.

And then she wore the dress every day when weren't in the town of Dunkuraa.

In fact, Sara, did you wear the dress every day for the second half of the trip?

At the close of our almost four month excursion of living in Ghana - after never-ending laughter about the number of times the dress was worn - "Dunkura," named after that small town in the Ashanti region became a symbol of the many good times had overseas. And so we promised to keep in touch by mailing the dress to one another with updates about our lives (a la Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).

It has been three years and yes, I have Dunkura. I've had her for just about a year now, in which I had to go to Vermont and retrieve her from Adwoa Sara G. (not to be confused with Adwoa Sara G. who is pictured above.)

Dunkura has been to Iowa where she saw Obama elected, was witness to many a Hawkeye football game, and has roamed the cornfields of Iowa. And now she is here in NYC, helping me get settled and transition into a new life.

Dunkura has helped me make it through a lot and I'll be sad to pass her on to the next person, but I am all about sharing the love and the wealth.

So I am sharing the love and the wealth.

Yay for Dunkura in NY! She'll feel right at home in the hustle and bustle.
