Well, it's official. My parents have been married for 25 years, together for more than 30.
In a day and age when myself and my peers are waiting to find our Mr. Forever; in the midst of horrible statistics concerning failing marriages everywhere; and black women in particular are the brunt of all media commentary concerning relationships; I am both happy and proud to say that my parents have made it work for a quarter of a century.
They are one hell of a team - always there for each other, always there for me and my siblings. They have shown and taught me what it means to love unconditionally. They have shown and taught me what it means to be a friend. Their relationship has taught me both how to work independently and how to work well with others.
They are truly blessed to have been with each other for 25 years and I pray that their marriage continues on strong for many more years to come.
I love you!
Happy Anniversary :)
