Taking Black Barbie to Another Level

Yes, that's right... you are looking at the Alvin Ailey Barbie Doll, dressed in "Revelations" white and all! The Ailey Empire has taken it to the next level. As much as I love Ailey and what they stand for and what they have become - and I surely will buy my little girls this doll - just how far will they take it? How much more serious can they take themselves? And how many more ways can they reincarnate "Revelations" and present it to the world? Am I the only one feeling like it's a bit overbearing...????

Here's what they have to say about it:
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of one of the world's premier modern dance companies, we present the first ever Barbie® Doll to be inspired by a dance company-Alvin Ailey®&nspb; American Dance Theater Barbie&® Doll. Designed by Artistic Director Judith Jamison, this Barbie® Doll reflects the famed beauty and grace of Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater and its world-class dancers. Taking the stage in a soaring leap and perfectly applied stage makeup, the doll is dressed in a flowing, white and lace costume worn in wade in the Water from Alvin Ailey's masterpiece Revelations.

Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater Barbie®&nspb; doll honors Alvin Ailey's legacy, the remarkable vision of Judith Jamison, and AAADT's mission to inspire and unite people of all backgrounds through the universal language of dance. Join us in the celebration of Alvin Ailey® American Dance Theater-America's cultural ambassador to the world!
