Show Girls: FOSSE

Today's show girls perform the work of Bob Fosse - a choreographer who defined an era in Broadway dance, and inspires one of my favorite contemporary performers (at least her choreographers).

A bit different from the Follies, but still reliant on this idea of a perfect spectacle are the girls in "Big Spender" of the Broadway classic Sweet Charity. The Fosse girls are raw and raunchy in comparison to the Follies girls, but nevertheless groomed to perfection for their role as hookers. Their choreography while wild at times, is still exact - to the tap of the finger tips, or the stomp of a heel. What this work brings to the table that the Follies doesn't is a sense of competition. These girls are doing their best to vie for the attention of a big spender.
