The Great Schlep: Jews for Obama

I came across this website this morning, via a Jewish Barnard friend's status message. Now as a former Barnard student, where the population was a little more than a third Jewish, I have become keenly aware of the power that can be wielded when Jews stick together to get what they want. And while that did not always work in my favor, i.e. a paper or exam moved earlier or later because half the class would be gone for Passover, in this case I'm glad that they are sticking together for political good.

In the following video, actress Sarah Silverman puts in a major plug for Jewish young people to "schlep" to Florida, visit their grandparents and convince them to vote for Obama. I'm not gonna lie, it's kinda racist, but also hilarious. It also seems a bit ridiculous, but is totally for real... I hope they get to schleppin'.

"...I have become keenly aware of the power that can be wielded when Jews stick together to get what they want."

Isn't that true of any group that sticks together for a common purpose? Why single out Jews?

Isn't "the power that can be wielded when [whoever] stick together to get what they want" the essence of democracy?

Isn't that what Obama's supporters are doing, "sticking together to get what they want," i.e., victory for Obama?
